What Should I Write in a Birthday Card?

Write one specific thing rather than three general ones. A good birthday message can follow three simple beats: the birthday wish, something personal about them or the year they have had, and a warm sign-off.

Specific always beats elaborate. “Another year of you talking me into things I would never do alone” feels more personal than a paragraph of general birthday wishes.
