Just because cards, for no occasion at all

Every other card on this site has a reason attached. This one is the reason. It is for the person you were thinking about for no particular cause, on a day with nothing written on it.

What to write in a just because card

Cards without an occasion carry more weight than cards with one, precisely because nothing prompted them. Nobody has to send this. That is the entire message, before you have written a word. Tap a suggestion in the builder if you want a starting point. Most people end up editing it into something better.

So keep it light and keep it short. An inside joke, one thing that made you think of them, something you have been meaning to say and never found the moment for. It does not need to be significant. It needs to be genuinely from you. Pick a reveal above that matches the mood.

Just Because eCards: common questions

What do you write in a just because card?

Write what actually prompted it. "I saw this and thought of you", "you crossed my mind and I never say so", or a running joke between you are all complete cards.

With no occasion to live up to, the bar for the message is honesty rather than significance.

Do people find a card with no occasion strange?

Almost never. The worry is far more common than the bad reaction, and an unprompted card is usually the one people mention weeks later.

Cards tied to occasions are partly obligation. This one can only be explained by the fact that you wanted to send it.

When is a good time to send one?

The middle of an ordinary week is ideal. Cards land hardest when nothing else is competing for the moment, so a Tuesday afternoon beats a weekend or the run-up to a holiday.

If you know they are having a flat stretch, that is a better moment still.

Who can I send a just because card to?

Anyone the message suits: a partner, a friend, a sibling, a parent, someone you have been out of touch with.

The category is deliberately unspecific, so the message you write sets the tone, and the reveal options cover everything from playful to romantic.

Is this different from a thinking of you card?

Yes, in tone. A thinking of you card is for someone going through something difficult and is written with care and restraint.

Just because is lighter: no situation, no weight, just a card. If they are having a hard time, use thinking of you instead.

Can it be funny rather than sentimental?

Absolutely, and for many relationships it should be. A card that sounds like you always beats a card that sounds like a card.

If your friendship runs on insults and inside jokes, write it that way. The reveal handles the sentiment; the message can do whatever you like.
